Laos Kun

Former deputy of Tryden · secretly the hacker Cicuta

Former deputy of Dermot Tryden, pilot of the PRAGMATIK shuttle — and secretly the legendary hacker Cicuta, who helped Christian remove and decode his Unifol chip. He moves between Kowloon intelligence and Preceptorium operations, loyal to neither and useful to both.

The Figure

Two names, one quiet smile

To the Preceptorium, Laos Kun is Tryden’s reliable former deputy, latterly assigned the privateer Nortia-220 and the PRAGMATIK shuttle. To those who know the network from the inside, he is Cicuta — a legendary hacker associated with both Kowloon intelligence and Preceptorium operations, the one who freed Christian’s mind from his Unifol chip.

Kun is the book’s pivot of hidden information. He speaks in riddles that turn out to be directions — the Auditorium of the Great Ziggurat, the fate of the other two Guilords. He always seems to know what is coming, because he is usually the one who arranged it.

Function

Former deputy of Minister Tryden; pilot of state craft. The trusted face is the most elaborate part of the disguise.

The other name

He is Cicuta, the hacker who moves between Kowloon and the Preceptorium — and who cut Christian free of the Unifol.

The game

Kun serves whichever side advances his purpose. When he says the Preceptor is already waiting for you, it is because he made sure of it.

“I feel with all my thin veins that he's already waiting for you.”
